Summary: Five years after the end of The Aphanes, Joel and his friend Paul are working with homeless mutants in Montreal. When they meet Jeanne-Marie Beaubier, who is offered work with the Canadian government, Joel and his friends become embroiled in a system that may not be as benevolent to mutants as it appears.
Warnings: As with Aphanes -- original characters, religion, politics, mental illness, and copious bilingual swearing.
Canon: I have very little respect for canon. Consider this story as part of a universe that intersects movie and comics canon in places, but I don't pretend that it's plausible as a part of canon. In terms of a timeline, it begins after X1 and extends to the events of X2. Alpha Flight canon is reimagined completely, although basic concepts have been preserved (the same sort of process that X-Men canon went through for the movie).
Disclaimer: It is intuitively obvious that the Marvel characters are the property of Marvel. Joel McCree and associates belong to me. The city of Montreal belongs to everyone who loves bagels and smoked meat.

UPDATE, as of August 2007: Yes, this story is back in progress and I promise you, it will be finished. I apologise sincerely for the wait.
